Gilson’s Smart Liquid Handling Tools: Now Available to All Researchers Eager to Achieve Verifiable Science
Researchers can create reports of all pipetting actions as well as the environmental conditions in which they have been completed.
Gilson will announce that they are making TRACKMAN® Connected publicly
available following a limited release program at the Society of Lab
Automation and Screening (SLAS) 2019 International Conference &
Exhibition.
Previously, Gilson launched the Gilson Connect platform with its first
two Bluetooth®-enabled, smart liquid handling devices: TRACKMAN®
Connected, an all-in-one kit with a tablet, apps and accessories,
and the PIPETMAN®
M Connected electronic pipette. TRACKMAN® Connected automatically
records every step of the protocol executed with the PipettePilot app.
Researchers can create reports of all pipetting actions as well as the
environmental conditions in which they have been completed. This report
can then be saved to SciNote,
an electronic lab notebook (ELN), which provides a more convenient and
permanent alternative to paper notebooks.
Gilson sought to optimize Gilson Connect for the research community by
rapidly incorporating feedback from early-access customers in a series
of three releases. This led to more than a dozen upgrades to TRACKMAN
Connected that were directly fueled by partnering with researchers in
the lab.
“Gains in reliability don’t have to come at the expense of convenience,”
said Steve DeCabooter, Gilson’s Director of Product Information
Platforms. “Gilson smart devices help scientists achieve verifiable
science, boost experimental efficiency, and collaborate across teams
with smart technology that builds best practices into their everyday
routine.”
The TRACKMAN Connected kit comes preloaded with PipettePilotTM,
which guides researchers through pipetting protocols and displays the
next well on the plate to pipette. It provides a new functionality that
reminds scientists to pre-wet their pipettes, a best practice for more
accurate and precise results. Additionally, to help increase
traceability of the materials used in their experiment, scientists can
now scan or type in batch serial numbers for microplates, tips, or other
devices into their reports. With the tablet, users can also photograph
their microplate, their solution, or the bar codes on their pipette tip
racks for easier, faster, and more comprehensive recording. Finally,
scientists can make their experiments easier to replicate by sharing
their pipetting protocols on SciNote’s free ELN.
Because pipetting is more than just using proper technique, the new
application PipetteScopeTM lets scientists know exactly when
to calibrate their PIPETMAN M Connected. This app provides researchers
access to their calibration history and gives them the ability to
request service appointments. Lab managers can also use this app to
monitor the electronic pipette’s usage, including the different modes
used, to optimize the lab workflow. PipetteScope comes preloaded in the
TRACKMAN Connected kit and is also available on Google Play for all
PIPETMAN M Connected users.
Gilson will be presenting a live demo of TRACKMAN Connected and SciNote
at SLAS at booth #1143, February 4-6.

About TRACKMAN Connected
TRACKMAN Connected is an all-in-one kit that connects the bench in a
safe and convenient way. Inside is a Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 tablet
preloaded with the app PipettePilot, which tracks and registers all
actions done in an experiment in real time, and PipetteScope, which
displays pipette activity and helps researchers keep their pipettes
calibrated. Results generated by the devices can be saved, shared or
synced to sciNote, a free open source electronic lab notebook. TRACKMAN
Connected also comes with all the accessories needed to pipette directly
on top of the tablet, plus an environment sensor that wirelessly
monitors ambient temperature, humidity, and pressure conditions.
About PIPETMAN M Connected
PIPETMAN M Connected is a Bluetooth pipette that works synchronously
with Gilson applications PipettePilot, on TRACKMAN Connected, and
PipetteScope, giving researchers the ability to execute tasks with real
time application guidance and recordkeeping.
