The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Announces 2023 Recognition Awards
The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 ACVIM Recognition Awards.
The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2023 ACVIM Recognition Awards. These accomplished veterinary professionals have demonstrated excellence, dedicated service and expertise, making a significant impact on the wellbeing of animals and advancing the veterinary profession. The awards were presented during the 2023 ACVIM Forum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before an international audience of ACVIM Diplomates and veterinary professionals. The award winners are:
- Dr. Peter Constable, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, is the 2023 recipient of the Robert W. Kirk Award for Professional Excellence for his outstanding career and lifetime of contributions to the ACVIM and veterinary internal medicine.
- Dr. Ellen Behrend, Joezy Griffin Endowed Professor & Alumni Professor Emeritus at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, is the 2023 recipient of the Lee & Inge Pyle Service Award for her record of outstanding and dedicated service in a volunteer capacity to the ACVIM.
- Dr. Jessica Ward, Phyllis M. Clark Endowed Professorship, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Extramural Student Programs at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine, is the inaugural recipient of the William R. Fenner Early Career Award for Outstanding Service. This new award is presented for exceptional service to the ACVIM in a volunteer capacity within the first 10 years following board-certification.
Additionally, recognizing the most prominent leaders in each of the Collegeโs six specialties, this year the ACVIM acknowledged members from three specialties for Specialty Lifetime Achievement Awards:
- Specialty Lifetime Achievement Award for Cardiology: Dr. Robert Hamlin, Stanton Youngberg Professor Emeritus, The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Senior Scientist at QTest Labs
- Specialty Lifetime Achievement Award for Large Animal Internal Medicine: Dr. Pamela Wilkins, Professor of Equine Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign College of Veterinary Medicine
- Specialty Lifetime Achievement Award for Small Animal Internal Medicine: Dr. Jody Lulich, Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine
Nominations for the ACVIM Recognition Awards are accepted annually, with awardees selected by a panel of past recipients.
