To help guide its work, the Farm also announced the addition of two new board members—Truist’s Evelyn Lee and JK Moving’s Tucker Gladhill.

“We are growing more to serve our community—both in terms of healthy food and leadership. We’ve added two more strong business leaders to the JK Community Farm board, who will help us meet our goals of ensuring that more people have access to healthy foods as well as educating them about the importance of these foods to their health,” explained Samantha Kuhn, executive director, JK Community Farm.

For 2023, the Farm plans to grow 245,000 pounds of food, the equivalent of 194,000 healthy, organic meals for those area residents facing food insecurity. In 2022, the Farm donated 235,000 pounds of food, about 188,000 meals, and hosted over 4,500 volunteers. This year, the Farm will put even more emphasis on soil health to further enhance the nutrition of the produce; increased varieties of vegetables; and the creation of healthy recipes for its food pantry partners. Another goal will be the completion of a full food education curriculum to enhance its Field Trip program. The Farm also will offer summer internships open for six high school/college students. Throughout the year, the Farm engages the business community and individuals through volunteer teambuilding events, including hosting its Plant-A-Thon on May 19-21 and Intern Day on July 13.

Helping guide this growth, the Farm has expanded its board with two new members: Evelyn Lee, executive vice president and regional president, Greater Washington Region, Truist Financial Corporation, Truist, and Tucker Gladhill, director of Technology Services, JK Moving. They will serve alongside David Joubran, senior vice president, Salesforce; Tracey Owens, president and co-founder, O2KL; Brad Nicklin, audit partner, Baker Tilly; Denis MacFarlane, founder and CEO, Infinitive, Chuck Kuhn, CEO, JK Moving; Brandon Bloodworth, co-founder, Barbaricum; Gwyn Whittaker, CEO, GreenFare; and Harry Ross, CPA, Ross and Associates.
